Chairperson of Thesis Committee
The Chairperson of Thesis Committee is a member of the academic staff of the University who is a Registered Level 1 Supervisor. Generally a Chairperson will be an experienced Supervisor.
Before the final application form is sent to the Curtin Malaysia Graduate School to be processed, the Enroling Faculty’s Associate Dean of R&D must propose a Chairperson of Thesis committee.
Only a member of the academic staff of the University who is a Registered Level 1 Supervisor can be proposed as a Chairperson of Thesis committee.
The administrative roles are as follows:
- The Chairperson has mainly administrative roles (eg. monitoring student’s progress, providing recommendations related to student’s status, solving student’s complaint etc).
- It is important for the Chairperson to discuss with supervisors and the student at the outset the proposed research to ensure all are satisfied with the plan of study.
- The Chairperson should ensure all supervisor team members and students comply with all HDR policies and regulations.
- The Chairperson should act as an intermediary if there is a problem with the HDR student or the emergence of conflict among the supervisor team members. The Chairperson should report the problem to the Curtin Malaysia Graduate School (the Chair of Graduate Committee) if it can not be solved at the faculty level.
In the event that an appointed Chairperson is unable to perform the assigned duties, the Enroling Faculty’s Associate Dean of R&D shall nominate a replacement Chairperson for the relevant period for approval by the Curtin Malaysia Graduate School.
